REPLACING THE DUAL IGNITER BELT.
Remove the heater hose by loosening the clamp (red arrow in Figure 0) and disconnect the two connectors (circled in red in Figure 0).
Align the two reference marks on the crankshaft pulley and the engine crankcase (Figure 3); on the distributor side, you should be in the position shown in Figure 2 (with a raised area on each distributor, as indicated by the red arrow).
Disconnect the connector located on the front of the dual ignition module (red circle), as well as the small coolant hose just below it. Then unscrew the 4 screws holding the two distributor caps in place.
Loosen the nut at the base of the distributor (red circle in Figure 3), then pull it out from the top while rotating it.
Loosen the 3 Allen screws (green circles in Figure 5) and remove them.
Do the same with the 3 Phillips-head screws on the caseprimary (right next to it, Figure 6) and remove the connector cover so that you end up with the setup shown in Figure 6 (red circle).
Turn the double igniter housing over again on the vise.
Note that the two halves are centered by two small guides located at each end (see red arrows in Figure 9).
To install the new belt, we'll need to cut off about 2 mm from the length of each guide.
Use a circlip plier to remove the circlip so you can free the centrifugal feed shaft (Figure 10, circled in yellow), and cut the worn belt to remove it.
Reinstall the toothed pulley with the belt (Figures 13 and 14), making sure to include the washers, then reinstall the centrifugal feed shaft after cleaning and greasing it, and finally, tighten the 3 Allen screws and the 3 Phillips screws to secure the assembly.
If necessary, apply a small amount of lubricant to the O-ring (Figure 4, red arrow) to make it easier to reinstall.
Don't forget to replace the retaining nut (Figure 2, circled in red) and tighten it. Reconnect the various connectors as well as the hose used to cool the belt. Reinstall the two distributor caps and secure them. Reinstall the heater hose and secure it. Do a final check, then turn the ignition on and start the engine.
Turn the dual igniter housing over once more on the vise and reinstall the circlip into its seat using pliers or a screwdriver (Figure 16). Then replace the protective cap after applying grease to it.
Next, reattach the connector cover (Figure 17) and reinstall the ignition fingers and their protective cover. Finally, reinstall the entire assembly into its housing, making sure that the alignment marks are still aligned with the crankshaft pulley and the engine crankcase.
